Something has shifted here in Colorado and I want to acknowledge it before we get into the glass. This state has quietly become a Weller state. Not long ago you were paying $100 to $150 for a bottle of 107 if you were lucky enough to find one. Right now there are at least two spots in town sitting on these at $59.99. My bunker is stocked. The only thing I’ll go out of my way to pay above retail at this point is $90 for a good store pick. That’s where we are and quite frankly it’s where we should have been all along.
NAS. 107 proof. Buffalo Trace wheated mash bill, meaning wheat instead of rye as the secondary grain. Reportedly sitting around six years old though Buffalo Trace will never confirm that. The wheated profile is the whole story here and it shows up in every part of this pour.
The nose opens up sweet and immediately welcoming. Vanilla, honey, caramel, and a candy quality that’s hard to pin down but easy to enjoy. Cherry Cola is the best way I can describe the overall vibe of it. Custardy and sugary with a little graham cracker underneath. It smells like something you want to drink, which sounds obvious but not every bottle pulls that off at first sniff.
The palate is where 107 proof does quiet, confident work. Toasted marshmallow and caramel hit right away. Warm, buttery, and smooth in a way that makes you forget you’re drinking something north of 100 proof. The wheated profile softens everything without flattening it. There’s just enough oak in there to give it structure but it never gets in the way of that sweetness. It’s a very easy drinking pour that rewards you for slowing down and actually sitting with it.
The finish is long and satisfying. That sweetness carries all the way through, graham cracker comes out a little more at the end, and there’s a mellow oak presence that closes it out without drying it down. It keeps pulling you back in for another sip, which at 107 proof is either a feature or a warning depending on your Thursday evening plans.

Here’s the honest breakdown on price. At $59.99 this is an absolute buy, no question, no hesitation. I would have happily paid $100 to $150 for this not long ago and I don’t regret any of those purchases. At $90 for a store pick that’s been thoughtfully selected it’s still a yes for me. Above that you’re starting to pay for the Weller name more than what’s in the bottle, and the bottle is good enough on its own that it doesn’t need that kind of markup to justify itself anymore.
Colorado finally has Weller on the shelf at a fair price. If you’re in town and you haven’t grabbed one yet that’s on you at this point.
