A lot of us have dreams and ambitions that we keep putting off. We tell ourselves we’ll start tomorrow, next week, or when the perfect time comes. But the truth is, the best thing you can do is just start.

My Journey

As a master electrician for nearly 20 years, I kept telling myself I should use my MGI Bill to go back to school. I had countless excuses, but it was my mom who inspired me to finally make the call and get started. The hardest part for many of us is taking that first step. It’s easy to say we can’t, but every moment we waste not pursuing our goals only makes us more upset.

The Grind of Consistency

Lately, I’ve been grinding away, creating content for my page while still managing a full-time job. It’s tough, but I keep at it. It’s like going to college; it’s never the perfect scenario. Whether it’s going back to school, finding a new job, or starting a business, there are no perfect conditions. You just have to start working.

I’ve been posting content frequently, sometimes twice a day. It’s not about following trends but finding my audience. Despite the challenges, like being stuck in “200 jail” on TikTok (where my views are capped at 200), I keep posting consistently. It’s all about the grind and seeing things through to the end.

Overcoming Excuses

We all have excuses for not starting. I needed a new computer for video editing, but once I got it, it became a gaming computer. It took me a year to finally use it for content creation. I had to buy a GoPro, special microphones, and other equipment, all the while I could have been documenting my journey.

The perfect conditions will never arrive. You don’t need the best equipment or scenario to start. I had so many excuses for not going back to school, but putting my pride aside and enrolling was one of the most fulfilling decisions I’ve ever made. Even though my marketing degree isn’t highly regarded, it opened doors for me and led to significant personal growth.

Learning and Growing

Working at a digital marketing agency for the past five years has taught me so much. From writing HTML to understanding search engines and running paid ads, I’ve learned skills I never imagined I would. The digital marketing field is full of people who started because they were drawn to an aspect of it, whether it was starting their own business or understanding someone else’s.

The 24-Hour Rule

We all get 24 hours a day, and how you spend those hours is up to you. It’s easy to waste time, but if you have goals, you should chase them. Stop making excuses and start working towards what you want.

Practice Makes Progress

Everyone sucks when they first start. It took me eight hours to edit my first two-minute video. The second time, it took five hours; the third time, three hours. Now, it takes me about 30 minutes to an hour, and the actual editing part only takes about 10 minutes. It’s the other tasks, like uploading and scheduling, that take time.

I’m not aiming to be the next Martin Scorsese of TikTok. Most people on social media aren’t. But you get better by doing, not thinking about it.

Final Advice

So, sit down and get started. Don’t wait for the perfect moment, because it will never come. Take that first step today and begin your journey. Your future self will thank you.
