Preface

Foreword

I thought I had reviewed this shoe a few years ago but searched my YouTube and couldn’t find it. This shoe is a great value and it’s one that I would recommend to people new to CrossFit when they need a solid lifting shoe without breaking the bank. As a coach I noticed a lot of people would come in with sports shoes that didn’t accommodate heavy weight training. The Reebok 2.0 is a nice balance between that and general use.

First Impressions

I happened to catch a glimpse of this shoe online after I had purchased a pair of Reebok Nano 6’s. I noticed that they were nearly identical, but didn’t have the Kevlar upper, or the CrossFit branding on them. At the time, the Nano 6 ran $130, while the Workout 2.0 ran $40 (they still do). Since I love shoes and a bargain, I went ahead and picked them up.

Fit and Performance

I wear a size eleven and have a narrow foot. There is plenty of room in the toe box as is the trend for “even numbered” Nano’s. The even numbers tend to have a better fit that most reviewers attribute to this surplus in space. Suffice it to say, these fit the same as the Nano 6, but have a much better “flex” in the toe box, and a more comfortable “step” while running. The only thing missing in comparison is the 2.0 doesn’t have a Kevlar upper to go with it’s “rope climb” inner grip. However, I have climbed floors of rope with these shoes and it hasn’t put a dent in the upper.

The Workout 2.0 is flat enough for all of your Olympic lifts, have zero bounce, no heel slip (that I’ve felt), and are perfectly acceptable for runs up to one mile. Longer runs could get uncomfortable, so I wouldn’t recommend these for anything longer than 2 miles at maximum. Luckily, if you’re using these for CrossFit, those runs will be few and far between. But if you’re not into CrossFit, these will be fine for everyday use, lifts, general cardio, and you also have a little comfort in knowing that you could use these for running if you needed them.

Value and Final Thoughts

I love this shoe as an entry-level into any physical training. As a coach, I recommend it to all my new athletes, who are on the fence about CrossFit. It’s also a great option if you aren’t ready to spend $130 for a pair of shoes. The market has opened quite a bit and if you’re looking for a deal on CrossFit specific shoes, you can find Reebok Nano’s and Nike Metcon’s for as little as $60-$70. But if you’re new to the sport or just dipping your toes in, $40 is a hard deal to pass up. You also have the added bonus, that if you give up on the sport entirely, you didn’t spend a whole lot and have shoes you can use for anything else.

Note: I find it fair to mention that if you have a Reebok outlet store nearby, friends have told me, they can be copped for as low as $20.
